The Swan 103 is not a kit. It is a ready-to-fly aircraft that meets Federal Aviation Regulation Part 103. No pilot’s license or aircraft registration is required for operation in the United States.

The Swan represents a qualitative leap in ultralight performance. It is constructed almost entirely of vacuum formed, thermally treated carbon fiber and other fiber composite materials. The composite features are made possible owing to the decades long experience in composite manufacturing of Romanian based AVI Aircraft. Production is supervised by the Swan’s gifted designer and principle engineer Radu Berceanu.

Design features use computer modeling, wind tunnel testing, and RC replicas to eke out aerodynamic efficiency. Baked into the design is placement of the pilot seat at the center of gravity with adjustable rudder pedals. Thus, the design removes pitch trim requirements while still accommodating pilots from 5’ to 6’6”. Safety is enhanced with a sculpted Kevlar pilot seat with harness and a steel safety cage embedded in the composite surrounding the cabin.

The Swan 103 can be quickly broken down for travel or storage. Only a single threaded pin needs removal to detach the wings. The tail feathers also remove easily. A hinge in the boom allows it to be folded forward, enabling the entire plane to fit in a space just 6’ wide x 12’ long x 6.5’ high, which is the box size of a standard 6’x12’ enclosed trailer. In turn, it can just as easily be reassembled and ready to fly in a matter of minutes with experience and a second pair of hands. We are working on a custom trailer that makes it easy to load, provides exceptional protection in transit, and allows for one-person assembly.

In spite of the strict requirements of Part 103 and the plane’s ability to be disassembled and reassembled quickly, the Swan is remarkably robust, competent, and comfortable to fly. The pilot sits in a fully enclosed and roomy cabin with panoramic visibility. Included are comprehensive avionics with multi function glass panels. All Swans come with a tractor mounted Polini 303 engine including dual spark and electric start. An optional heat exchanger can be added to provide warmth for the cabin.

A standard Swan painted white with no options is currently 39k USD before shipping. Currently shipping costs are difficult to quote. We are exploring options and will post this asap.

The Swan has been available in Europe for some time and demand there fills AVI’s production schedule. We currently have the sole plane to come to the States to fly and exhibit. So there is a wait time to get a plane. If you wish to get in line for a Swan you can do so with a $1000 fully refundable deposit. We keep the deposits in a dedicated account. We do not use it for any other purpose. When it is time to build your plane, half the total purchase price is required based on the current euro/dollar exchange rate. The remainder is due when the plane is ready to ship from Romania. If you are not ready to order when your build time comes, we just take the next person in line and keep you at the top of the list. Or, as above, your deposit is refundable at any time and in short order.
